Progress, Photos, and ramblings of a Cosplayer. I enjoy things related to Dangan Ronpa. Umineko, Sailor Moon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Legend of Zelda, Madoka Magica, music, animals and things I find interesting. My blog is pretty random and doesn't have a set constant.

Super Sailor Jupiter Master Post
(I can’t remember if I’ve done this or not)
I’ve had a lot of people asking for a master post of my construction of my Super Sailor Jupiter cosplay. I’ll be honest, I don’t have a whole lot of confidence in my craftsmanship considering I am self taught and I don’t always do things the right way. But putting that aside I’d like to write up a post documenting how I made my Jupiter cosplay for those who have asked! I’ll start head to toe trying my best to explain what went into making my costume.
I pretty much use my natural hair for this cosplay save for a clip in ponytail to give my pony more volume. The hair baubles are two oversized pearls painted green and hooked onto the ponytail with elastic.
The tiara is craftfoam. I’ve had the same tiara since Youmacon 2010 and it is held onto my forehead with spirit gum. I sealed the foam with regular elmer’s glue and then painted over it with acrylic paint. The gem I resin casted myself and it is backed with silver tagboard.
The choker is just ribbon by the spool that I matched colors with the rest of green that I sewed snaps on and the star is again craftfoam sealed with elmer’s glue and painted with acrylic paint.
The fuku itself is all detachable. The chest armor I made by altering a leotard pattern (any leotard pattern will do, I honestly forget the number to my leotard pattern) The fabric I chose is a jersey knit so it has a little stretch and a layer of fleece to make it stick out and look more like ‘armor’ from the leotard. There’s a zipper in the back to make it easier to get on that is hidden by the green collar. The sleeves are just half ovals that I measured the circumference of my arm holes and then the length for how far out I wanted them to stick out over my shoulders. There is a layer of quilt batting in each one and then I top stitched two lines to give them the rolls. I go back and forth on the material I use for the clear wings on the sleeves. I’ve used both clear vinyl and sheer fabrics. I like the look of both but ultimately the sheer fabric is way more comfortable. The vinyl does get confused for my bra strap at times by people who aren’t familiar with the SuperS designs which is also why I switched back to fabric. ^_^
For the green collar I used a pattern I found online and traced (again my memory is quite foggy and I remember checking back at that website last year and it didn’t exist But there are tutorials on how to make a sailor collar online that is easily searchable that are perfectly fine for a Sailor Moon Fuku)
The bows are lined with interfacing so they don’t droop and are attached to the armor and skirt with snaps. A note about the bows, don’t just go with any old standard sizing. Make them FIT YOU! I did several adjustments alone on the butt bow because I am very short and don’t have legs that go on for miles. I shortened the tails and enlarged the bow to make myself appear a bit taller in photos. Same with the chest bow. None of us have the same chest size so play around with measurements to make sure the bow looks right on you. (There are also standard bow tutorials that are easily obtainable through search. :) )
My leotard is a bought one. All I had to do was cut the sleeves off and hem the raw edges. I bought it at my local dance store. It’s nice and thick and has a nude double layer over the front so it’s not see through at all. It’s also nice because it’s not shiny what so ever. :)
My heart on my chest bow again was resin casted by me using candy molds… I really wouldn’t recommend that but I somehow made it work. It’s backed with silver tagboard.
My gloves are kind of ghetto. I’ll be 100% honest about that. I used 4-stretch cotton spandex and literally just traced my hands. I wanted them to look seamless and it does work, for pictures, but up close those gloves are a hot mess and definitely not the correct way to make gloves. The green rolls at the top are basically green rectangles that I top stitched straight lines on and then stuffed with pillow fluff. They are attached to the gloves on the bottom stitch.
The skirt. I went for a crisper pleated look versus a gathered softer look for my Jupiter. The skirt ends up being slightly flatter than ones that use a circle skirt pattern and gather pleats but overall I like how my skirt looks on me. (Doesn’t mean I don’t like the other methods of Sailor Fuku skirts because they all look beautiful this is just the option that works best for me. ^_^ ) I do have a tutorial up on deviantART explaining how I made my skirt so I will link that versus going into detail. Skirt Tutorial
I wear dance tights with this costume to hide all my scars and my birthmark on my legs. Dance tights are nice in general to wear for cosplay because they are very opaque and hide things that you wouldn’t want people to see.
My boots. I love my boots. But to wear them…nope haha. They are incredibly uncomfortable. But it took me 3 months to find them. They were originally black with black laces. I used DM Design Spray Paint to paint them and then added white laces. What’s nice about DM Design is that the paint I used was a floral paint so once dry, it retains the original texture and I have been wearing these shoes since 2010 and there is no chipped paint or anything. (There is some wear and tear from trekking across campuses and convention centers but they are shoes after all lol) Also, I cannot help you find these because I have looked for them again and they are non-existent. I found them on ebay and they were from a Korean seller.
I think that is literally everything there is to know about my Sailor Fuku. I hope this helps anyone who has asked me or is interested. :)

So, the first image was huge on my computer and then turned out small on here? I dunno so I added the full pictures underneath it

I’m doing Throwback Thursday a little different by showing a costume I remade.
Super Sailor Jupiter. One of my all time favorite cosplays I’ve done. I really love the character and I really enjoy the costume.
I went from wearing a wig to using my real hair with a clip in ponytail, made bigger hair bobbles as you can see they weren’t even visible the first time I wore the costume and I never could get the ponytail high enough on that wig… which I learned just pulling a wig into a ponytail just doesn’t cut it.
My skirt went from being super bulky and long to crisp pleats and shorter to make my legs appear longer. My chest armor is more defined, though I did recently remake the chest armor for Katsucon and it’s even more defined.
In the newest, I made my own gloves and made the tubes smaller. I shortened the tails of the back bow so it’s not as sloppy on me and again the shorter bow masks my shortness.
That’s a lot of the major changes I did with the costume. :) I’m overall really happy with my progress.=3
The Sailor Moon group I got to take pictures with at Katsucon! <3

I didn’t realize this but, you could say I had a very ‘magical’ weekend with all the magical girls/witches I cosplayed. =3
Another picture from this weekend and it’s a sort of candid. I like candids. I was working with MindFall and http://www.facebook.com/octography snapped a shot of me. ^_^
